James Brame admits life at Worthing Thunder is something of a culture shock.
The 21-year-old from Worthing was used to watching from the bench at Brighton Bears last season.
That changed last week when he signed for Thunder and played 23 minutes after their 109-86 Trophy win over Solent.
He admitted: "It took a bit of getting used to but I need to play good minutes.
"I am looking to have a year or two and then step back. Hopefully there will be rule changes and more of a need for young English players."
Brame and Gary Smith go back a long way and the Thunder coach is delighted with his signing.
He felt the contribution from the bench was the biggest plus of last week's display.
Brame added: "We've got talented players here and I think we can win things. I hope Brighton do well too. I've got no grudges and I've got good memories from last season.
"I met some great guys there and had a good relationship with the coach."
Thunder shot 61 per cent from two-point range last week with Dwayne Martin (8-10) and Mark Vengoe (4-5) both consistent.
New boy Marvin Addy made four from six in that area and took ten rebounds.
Other highlights included nine assists by Paul Mundy-Castle and 14 rebounds by Gaylon Moore.
Sean Hampton's 30-point return to the side comprised 13 from 21 two point attempts, one three-pointer out of four and one from one at the line, plus nine rebounds and four assists.
Bognor Pirates' Matt Wakeling showed what he could offer off the boards by taking 13 rebounds in last week's 79-42 defeat at Brixton. Paul Sparrowhawk (18) and Lee Barnes (10) led the scoring.
