2,000 new homes will have to be built on brownfield sites in Adur to meet Government targets in the south east.

The plans for new housing are contained in West Sussex County Council's draft structure plan for the county for the next 15 years.

The Government has ordered the county to build a further 46,500 new homes, more than half of which will have to be on previously developed brownfield sites.

Adur's contribution is expected to be a minimum of 1,745 homes in an area stretching from Southwick to Lancing.

As part of the vision for the future, Adur will look to create economic prosperity in its coastal towns.

It will be looking to improve road and rail links along the south coast corridor and also between Gatwick and the coast.

The draft structure plan recognises that improvement and growth in the Gatwick area must be managed to help regenerate the coastal areas.

Details of the plan will go out to public consultation next month, and will be delivered to homes in the county inviting comment.

Adur District Council has also organised a public meeting to discuss the plan which will give people the chance to ask questions about it.

The meeting takes place at Adur Civic Centre, Ham Road, on December 5, at 7.30pm.
