Albion fans gathered in a New York square to pay tribute to a victim of the World Trade Centre terrorist attacks.
Former Sussex schoolboy and avid Albion fan Robert Eaton, 37, is believed to have been working in one of the towers at the time of the attacks and is among the thousands of people feared dead.
A jersey printed with Robert's name was hung on railings in Union Square, which has been transformed into a memorial for victims of the attacks.
Film actress Helen Mirren was among those who approached the fans in the square to ask more about the tribute to Robert.
She happened to be passing and was so moved by Robert's story she offered to narrate a BBC documentary, which is being made about British victims of the attacks.
The tribute was organised by members of the Albion fans' chatroom web site, North Stand Chat, to which Robert was a regular contributor.
Sixteen-year-old Albion fan Nick Lovett, of Dover Road, Brighton, took the jersey to the US where he met up with New York-based fans Steve McMahon and Paul Neal.
The jersey was placed with 145 tributes written by North Stand Chat contributors.
Steve, 41, said: "Robert's sister, Barbara, said the family was really touched by the affection from all the supporters."
Paul, a 40-year-old transport consultant from Goring, had a miraculous escape from the World Trade Centre.
He was at his desk on the 63rd floor of the north tower when the plane crashed into the building just above his office. At the time he did not realise a fellow Albion fan was a few floors above him.
Steve, originally from Worthing, has lived in New York for 15 years. He said: "It was only after the attacks that I realised Robert, Paul and myself had once talked in the chatroom about going for a drink together as fellow Albion fans in New York."
