City College in Brighton has treated Hayriye Mehmet disgracefully by withdrawing her place, four days before the start of term.
She is disabled and building work at the college is behind schedule. This means there is no proper wheelchair access, Now Hayriye may not be able to carry on with her plans to study travel and tourism management.
The college's expansion scheme is a large and exciting venture which should benefit its students and the city as a whole.
Almost all major projects run late and it should have taken this into account when offering Hayriye a place.
Its decision to deny her her education is callous. Surely it is not beyond the college's wit and ingenuity to provide proper access for her even in temporary buildings.
