Adur Athletic's Nick Taylor and mum Wendy have a strange post-match ritual - she kisses him every time he scores a goal.
Wendy also makes sure she kisses the exact part of the body her son used to score. The practice has been going on for ten years since Nick was eight, and shows no sign of abating as the teenager enters adulthood.
Wendy, 45, said: "I've kissed him on his head, his chest, his bum, almost everywhere really. It started when he was little and he never used to score at all. Nick was the goalie and he used to whinge that he didn't score any goals. I said to him that when he finally does score, which I knew he would, I would give him a big kiss.
"Then he played outfield and he began to score a few goals. I even kissed his bum once after the ball went in off his backside."
The 'celebrations' take place behind close doors at the Taylor family home in Lancing, and have remained a closely-guarded secret until now.
Wendy admitted: "Of course when I originally said I'd give him a kiss, he was a goalie and I never thought it would come to this. Over the years he must have scored over 100 times, he usually scores about 20 goals a season and he's got a kiss for every one.
"I don't mind, it's a bit of a laugh really, I just hope he has washed his feet beforehand. I do worry a bit because he is not the most hygienic of lads. He wears odd socks and I make him do his own washing. I gave him an ironing board for his 14th birthday."
Six footer Nick, 18, said : "I don't wash my socks very often. It is an unusual celebration I guess."
Nick now plays up front and has netted six goals so far this season, he said: "I am aiming for 25 goals again this season, so that's a lot of kisses. I always hope to score and I guess the kisses are an incentive!
"Mum's a good laugh and she's not that bad really. She puts up with a lot of nonsense. I have scored a few hat-tricks and a couple of fours so she has kissed me several times in one go."
The young striker also insists that when he moves out of home, the first requirement of any girlfriend will be to take over the goal celebrations. " Yeah," he said. " I'd love to find a girl to do it."
Dad Albert is the Worthing & District League side's manager, and he certainly does not mind the shenanigans as it means Nick is still banging in the goals. He added: "It's just a bit of fun, I hope Nick does not get too much grief for this."
Well done to the Taylors for being such good sports. We have given them a crate of London Pride to liven up their post-match celebrations further.
