I have had an idea about curbing aircraft hijack: The door to the flight deck could be reinforced with a hatchway for the flight attendants to pass refreshments to the flight crew.

There could be a form of sleeping gas connected to the oxygen supply, controlled by the pilot. The pilot and co-pilot could have masks fitted to oxygen bottles in the cabin. At the first sign of a hijack, the pilot would release the gas, which would render everyone unconscious and enable the pilot to land at the nearest airport. The hijackers could then be detained without anyone having been harmed.

I know this sounds crazy but it would be cheaper than President Bush's suggestion. What would two men do if there were five hijackers.
