Crawley Town drew 1-1 at Fareham in an FA Cup second qualifying round tie after a shaky performance.

The teams will meet again at the Broadfield Stadium tomorrow after their Jewson Wessex League opponents produced a solid display to deny the Reds.

Crawley boss Billy Smith said: "We had enough chances to have won the game. You can't take any game for granted and for Fareham it was their Cup final."

Dr Martens premier Reds struggled to make any impression early on at Cams Alders despite a large travelling support in the crowd of 410.

Warren Bagnall made a welcome return up front after suspension and was the brightest spark for Crawley on an otherwise scrappy afternoon.

The first blow for the visitors arrived after 25 minutes when Nigel Brake was involved in a clash of heads with Fareham player-manager Mark Chamberlain and the Crawley winger was taken to hospital with a suspected broken cheek bone.

Reds' Danny Carroll had a goal disallowed for an adjudged push on goalkeeper Lee Webber.

Crawley went close to scoring again eight minutes before the break.

A low drive by Ian Payne was well saved by Webber, who then reacted superbly to palm the ball away from Steve Restarick.

Reds continued to pressure without success after the interval as Bagnall, Carroll and Restarick went close before the scoring was finally opened on 75 minutes.

Warren Waugh provided the cross which Carroll headed back across goal for substitute Restarick to score.

The lead lasted a minute as Fareham's James Barfield appeared to be held back by John Ugbah and Peter Woods levelled from the spot.

Fareham midfielder Rhys Jones fractured an ankle.

Eastbourne Borough put up a tremendous fight before going out of the FA Cup to a solitary goal at Gravesend and Northfleet.

The Ryman League premier leaders did not have things all their own way and but for a great save from goalkeeper Jamie Turner to deny Matt Allen five minutes from time, Garry Wilson's men might have forced a replay.

Wilson said: "It was always going to be hard but the fact that we could come here and compete with one of the best non-league teams in the country proves we have come a long way."

The all important goal game in the 29th minute when Craig Wilkins headed home Jim Jackson's cross from the edge of the six yard box to give keeper Dean Lightwood no chance.

Dr Martens eastern division Borough came back after the interval as boss Wilson threw on strikers Allen, Clinton More and Keith Miles in the search of an equaliser.
