A man has been detained at Gatwick Airport under the Prevention of Terrorism Act while en route to America.
The 36-year-old was arrested at the airport on Friday, while travelling from the Middle East to the US.
It is understood he was still being questioned by Sussex Police as investigations continued worldwide into the terror attacks on America.
It is believed the man, who has not been named, was attempting to follow the same route to America as 11 of the 19 suicide hijackers.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: "A 36-year-old man was arrested at Gatwick while in transit to the USA and detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act."
