Injuries are frustrating Eastbourne Borough boss Garry Wilson's plans to make his side more consistent.
Ben Austin, Paul Stevens, Andy Ducille and Steve Willard were all doubts for this afternoon's FA Cup tie at Gravesend and Wilson hasn't been able to field his full strength side all season.
An unsettled team has led to inconsistent results. Wilson was critical of his defenders last week after the 3-2 home defeat by Rugby United but delighted with their response on Tuesday when they beat Ashford 1-0 in a somewhat bruising encounter at the Homelands.
Wilson said: "We played Hastings, who are top, a few weeks ago and were unlucky to lose, but a week later four of the five defenders we'd played in that game were out.
"When you're changing the team all the time it is difficult but hopefully things will settle down again soon."
Wilson hasn't ruled out a dip into the transfer market at some stage, but he'll only bring in players who can help the club's long term aims.
"We're still building the club up. I think we'll finish higher than we did last season and make a push for the premier division next season."
