I wonder if I am alone in finding the ping-pong debate in The Argus letters page over the issue of a directly-elected mayor something of an irrelevant joke.
Day after day, week after week, year after year, the failings of Brighton and Hove City Council have been splashed across the news pages like milk on linoleum.
We now live in a city on the cusp of major organ failure dominated by a bankrupt local government carried along only by the momentum of its own mediocrity.
Bankrupt of ideas, bankrupt of authority and bankrupt of cash (if the recent savage cuts to the voluntary sector are any indication).
The debate over whether a council dominated by late-middle-aged college lecturers, do-gooders, the retired and the generally holier-than-thou should remain and bumble on in its other-worldly fashion is nothing more than clamorous triviality.
Put simply, this administration is a complete shower. I'm voting for AWBBTT - Anything Would Be Better Than This.
