The hate-filled rant of Harold E Parkin (September 26) deserves an award for convenient factual oversight.
He first tried to justify the recent terrorist slaughter of innocent people by referring to the US action in Vietnam and generally portraying the US as some terrible evil.
He conveniently disregarded the fact that had the US not stepped in to help Britain in two world wars we should surely have been defeated.
He then focused his hate on Israel and the Jews. He described Arial Sharon as a "monster" for "crimes against humanity in Shebra and Shatilla".
Again, he overlooked those atrocities having actually been perpetrated by, and under the command of, Christian Phalangists.
There was not a word of Arab terrorist attacks against Israel, which sometimes run at the rate of dozens a day.
He referred to "occupying Palestinian land", overlooking the large numbers of Palestinian Jews that have lived there for thousands of years and that a large part of that so-called land is filled with towns bearing Hebrew names.
Who does he imagine lived in the land called Judea? And has he heard of Jesus?
Of course, Judea is now part of the West Bank or Occupied Territories where Jews who try to settle are called "illegal".
He seems to believe Israel occupies vast territory. Sight of a map would show him the vast and mighty empire of Israel is about the size of Sussex and Kent.
He referred to Israel breaching UN resolutions. He conveniently overlooked the huge numerical superiority of Arab voting countries, which ensures consistent anti-Israel resolutions.
If I had the choice of company with the US or with any of the dictators he mentioned in his letter, I would very much prefer the former.
No matter what grievance Mr Parkin may have against the US, nothing, absolutely nothing, can justify the recent mass slaughter of innocents and the terrible death of so many, including hundreds of UK citizens.
