I read with interest the article concerning Mrs Smart and Mrs Simmons seeking compensation from Brighton and Hove City Council after tripping on pavements and sustaining injuries (The Argus September 27).
I, too, was refused compensation after tripping and breaking a wrist in Regency Square in October last year.
The fracture also caused loss of earnings. I was informed by the council's solicitor that, although there was a discrepancy in the pavement levels, the council had nothing to offer and that I could seek independent advice.
I also wonder how often the council pays out. It knows how costly legal advice is, as I discovered by taking my case further.
The public doesn't have a leg to stand on - pardon the pun.
