Councillor Tehmtam Framroze (Letters, October 2) should know all councils have a legal duty to house the homeless.
Does Brighton and Hove City Council also have a legal duty to make them homeless through no fault of their own?
Tony Blair tells us to help look after our elderly parents. This was what my two sisters and brother were doing since my mum, who was 81 years old and lived in council accommodation for 50 years, was getting very frail.
We were worried about her living on her own because she also suffered from a bad knee for years and was due to have a second operation.
We were worried she would fall down the stairs and, because we cared, my brother gave up his own private flat to move in with mum to give her the night care she needed.
My two sisters and myself would care for mum in the day.
The council was informed of this but, because my mother died on August 30, my brother has been served with notice to vacate the premises by October 29.
My mother's death was a shock for all of us. We never thought she had such a short time left.
My brother is 62 years old next month, born and bred in this county, has always worked and never asked for handouts.
He does not earn a lot and cannot afford private accommodation. He's at his wits' end.
He has all my mum's things - which he does not want - to get rid of. So much for Tony Blair's caring for the elderly.
