The successful husband and wife team of Martin and Jo Galway reached the final of the Worplesdon Mixed Foursomes.
They have high hopes of a second successive victory.
But they were beaten 2 & 1 when confronted by James Harper from Royal Eastbourne and Kirsty Fisher of Royal Lytham.
Martin (Mid Sussex) and Jo (ESN) were two down after six holes but then won three holes in a row to go one up after 10. Wins at 11 and 12 changed the picture and when Harper and Fisher birdied the 17th it was all over.
A student of sports science at Brighton University, James, 21, whose handicap is three, was a member of the Royal Davies & Tate team last year. He worked in Portugal for a while where he met Kirsty who plays off plus-two. Since then they have made a winning combination on the golf course.
Joe Doherty'' 68 was good enough by one shot to win the Cissbury Trophy at Worthing when the scheduled 36-holes was cut to 18 because of bad weather. Doherty was pressed hard by Steve Graham with Scott Nightingale, the Sussex Amateur champion, third on 72.
Leading scores:
68 Joe Doherty (Worthing).
69 Steve Graham (Littlehampton).
72 Scott Nightingale (Worthing); Arwell Roberts (Worthing).
73 Rob Bright (Worthing).
Nett: Steve Verth (Lewes), 69; 2 Alastair Malins (Paxhill Park), 73.
