My husband died in July 1995, at the age of 43, in the Royal Sussex County Hospital under vastly different circumstances than the horrific manner in which an 80-year-old former mayor died there (October 1).
All the staff - consultants Mr Clark and Mr Green, sister Jane Kingsbury and ICU named nurse Jill Robinson, chemotherapy staff on Howard II and cleaners - were the most fantastic people it has been my privilege to meet.
Every medical procedure was explained at length, every kindness shown to me, my children and my husband's family, including his mother, who was then 86. I cannot fault any aspect of David's care during his nine-week stay.
Four of those nurses attended David's funeral. One of them, Robyn, even interrupted her honeymoon to do so.
