I'm sure many of you will remember Denis Healey's famous quote that being attacked by Geoffrey Howe was 'like being savaged by a dead sheep',
Well...
SOUNDS OF THE SEVENTIES (Cardiff, September 29, 2001)
Five hundred faces filled with hate.
A torrent of abuse.
'You'll get a kicking after, mate!'
And sure, all hell broke loose.
I thought of Healey's epithet -
but here, no Geoffrey Howe.
Alive, these ovine predators.
And desperate for a row!
I heard the sound of distant drums.
The drums of Cozy Powell.
I heard old Noddy's rasping yell and Bolan's neighing howl.
I thought of tank tops, awful flares:
'You'll never make the station!'
Not Ninian Park - Jurassic Park.
Time for modernisation!
Attila The Stockbroker.
To all Albion fans who were at Cardiff on Saturday, I hope you all got home safely.
Having had coins thrown at us during and after the game, the safety of the fans after the game was deplorable. Elderly citizens, women and young children faced a hostile mob chanting obscenities.
Last time I visit Cardiff.
Alan Fogarty, Davey Drive, Brighton.
BRUCE SAYS: You and quite a few others I expect. But are Cardiff going to do anything about it? Will Albion put them under pressure to act?
Albion chairman Dick Knight says the club are losing money playing at Withdean.
With this in mind, why don't they put some seating behind the west goal?
This will enable more fans to see the team, creating a better atmosphere and more revenue.
A. Langan Wilbury Avenue, Hove BRUCE SAYS: I'm sure Martin Perry would correct me, but I don't think Albion are allowed to put in any more seats.
Following the death of Brighton fan Robert Eaton we have decided to establish The Robert Eaton Memorial Fund in order to raise funds to establish the Robert Eaton Soccer Academy in New York for under privileged children.
Our inaugural event will be a memorial match between Brighton and Hove Albion supporters v Crystal Palace supporters that will take place on Friday 9th November at Southwick FC, kick off 7.45pm.
Entry by programme is £2, there will be an auction and a raffle. Guest appearances by Albion players and officials past and present will be made.
Sussex Football Academy by e-mail BRUCE SAYS: I'm sure Albion fans will be out in force for this game.
Here is a copy of a letter I have sent to the council regarding Albion's stadium plans.
"It was partially due to neglect on the part of Brighton council, that the Albion has no ground to speak of.
Rather than delay this issue by shifting responsibility and enter the never ending debate on who wants what where, someone has to grasp the nettle and make a decision to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
To play their home fixtures at Withdean is depriving thousands of tax payers their chance to watch their local club. Should they be promoted to division one they will be a laughing stock.
I've heard much crowing lately about our city status. What city in this country, or any other for that matter, has a football ground that would embarrass a non league team.
None of the tax payers care whether we are a city or not. But there are thousands who want a decent home for the club."
Lewis Smith, by e-mail Burgess Hill manager Gary Croydon said last week that he couldn't understand why his team are still the one everyone wants to beat.
Well I found the reason in Sports Argus. His team are top of the league for heaven's sake!
Maybe letting the world and his wife know that you have the luxury of putting 20 players on contract before a ball was kicked has something to do with it!
Seriously though, opponents with thoughts of winning points think of nothing else but beating all opponents, including Burgess Hill I'm afraid.
Gary seems to be saying that his rivals for the Championship are going to get an easier ride than Burgess Hill from opponents this season. If he thinks teams only play with venom against Burgess Hill that's an insult to all other managers and their players.
Believe me, Sidley will have the feeling of being champions and wanting to prove they are true contenders again.
Rod Ralfe Hollingdean BRUCE SAYS: Here's my prediction - Burgess Hill to win another title.
