I've just been reading the "Stop big city boss" broadsheet which has been produced by the so-called Allies For Democracy in their attempt to stop the people of Brighton and Hove having a chance to elect a new type of mayor.
Their whole approach seems to adopt a highly personal and, quite frankly, questionable attack on one local individual who may or may not decide to run for mayor if local people decide to adopt the mayoral system.
They also seem to be highly selective in their examples of corruption, without recognising that corruption also occurs in councils run on the committee system.
That one of the local councillors who appears in the paper is now calling for "reasoned debate" is both laughable and hypocritical.
Electors in Brighton and Hove will make up their own minds on this issue on the basis of whether they feel it will lead to a better-run and more responsive council.
The literature released by the Allies For Democracy does nothing to help this debate and those councillors and parties who put their name to it should be ashamed of themselves.
