Police say a man whose body was washed ashore on Brighton beach yesterday did not die in suspicious circumstances.
The body of Zafor Khan, 36, from London, was washed up near the West Pier around 5.10am.
A police spokesman said he went into the sea between Duke's Mound and the Palace Pier at around 2am and was reported missing 30 minutes later.
He added: "He is not believed to have died in suspicious circumstances but we are anxious to try to establish what happened."
The investigation into Mr Khan's death has been codenamed Operation Sanderling.
Police are particularly keen to hear from witnesses who were in the area between 12am and 3am on Friday.
