I was shocked to see Alan Jenkins, principal of Varndean Sixth Form College, quoted as saying (of his proposal to sell three acres of college land adjacent to Draxmont Way): "The proposals are supported by...local authority" (The Argus, October 4).
I checked with the relevant parts of the local authority planning office that this is not true.
Planning permission has not yet been given and the relevant planning meeting is not due until November 1 at the earliest. A misleading impression, at the least, has been created, though I understand this is not unusual with controversial planning applications.
Perhaps Mr Jenkins had said that the local authority education department, an obligatory consultee, was in favour and the reporter simplified his words and thereby created the error.
