We have had them in Brighton for a couple of years and now they appear to be spreading to Hove.
I'm talking about pavement buildouts.
Firstly, what is the point? Do we want to reduce all our junctions to single lanes so all traffic gets held up if one vehicle wishes to turn right?
The Clock Tower junction, Brighton, where vehicles turn right from North Street to Queens Road, is a case in point. The road has been narrowed to a single lane in each direction, causing traffic hold-ups.
Isn't it also safer for pedestrians, particularly elderly people, to cross half-way across a road and wait at a central reservation rather than having to cross all the way in one go?
Secondly, when funding for non-profitable bus routes and volunteer groups cannot be found, how can money be found for this scheme?
