Eight internet centres have been given the go-ahead to provide easy access to computers for people with few or no IT skills.
The centres, spread across Sussex, are part of a Government-backed plan to open up internet access across the UK.
Education and Skills Secretary Estelle Morris announced plans to open another 1,116 online centres across the country, bringing the Government backed total to 2,840.
There will be three centres in Hove, one in Bexhill, three in Brighton and one mobile unit covering the Worthing and Bognor areas.
The aim of the centres is to bring information and computer technology and learning to people who may not easily gain access to it. They will be located at convenient places and open at times to suit the users.
Ms Morris said many of the centres would be place in the most deprived areas of the country and would provide opportunities for those with the greatest need.
She pointed out that almost all schools were connected to the internet and it was paying dividends and now it was time to give adults a chance to share these opportunities.
