The chairman of Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has been appointed to the Press Complaints Commission.
Commission chairman Lord Wakeham today announced two new independent lay members, Mary Francis, director general of the Association of British Insurers, and Vivien Hepworth, chairman of Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.
He said: "The key to the success of the commission is the interaction between senior editors, who are in the minority, and lay members, who bring experience and expertise from many different walks of life."
The Commission has 16 members. Nine, including the chairman, do not have journalistic backgrounds while the other seven are drawn from the ranks of senior editors.
Lord Wakeham also announced the retirement of three lay members - Baroness Smith of Gilmorehill, Dame Ruth Runciman and Mrs Arzina Bhanji.
