How alarming to discover there are proposals threatening the excellent caring service provided by the team at the Nigel Porter Unit for breast cancer care in Brighton.
With others, I remember the confusing, disorganised, traumatic events we experienced prior to the vision of the pioneer team, Mr Hogbin, Mr Gumpert and Macmillan breast care nurse Michele Stacey.
They set-up of this much-appreciated unit, with its pleasant and calming atmosphere, in which one meets a caring and supportive approach to breast cancer at a time of shock, fear and great sensitivity.
During the past ten years, a faithful band of friends and family has supported my annual fund-raising and, to date, contributed in the region of £10,000 to this worthy cause.
What an insult to all those who have worked so hard to provide this vital facility to want to put it beyond the reach of those for whom it is intended.
By all means let the large population of Mid Sussex have its own excellent breast care unit, but without making the people of Brighton sacrifice their own.
Please keep breast care in Brighton for our very large and needy community to access more easily.
