More than 1,000 people attended the wedding of former mayor Jenny Langston and fellow councillor Mark Barnard.
Friends and relatives mingled with acquaintances from the couple's political lives at the service at All Saints Church in Hove.
The couple also received greetings from well-wishers including Margaret Thatcher and Norman Tebbit.
Jenny, 53, was accompanied up the aisle by Glynn Jones, former chief executive of Brighton and Hove City Council, at the weekend.
Mark, 34, and Jenny have been councillors and members of the Tory party for years.
Her former husband Steve, a city councillor for the Goldsmid ward, died at their home in Avondale Road, Hove, in February after suffering a blood clot.
It was Mark's support during the months following the death of her husband of 32 years which brought them together. The couple became engaged in July.
Jenny said: "I never expected in the dark days after Steve's death that I would end up falling in love and getting married again."
