Worthing's perfect start in London Three South East was destroyed in a shock 20-14 home reverse to Tonbridge Juddian.
A score from Raynn Bruce and three Tony Cruz penalties kept them in the contest but they threw away chances to win it late on.
The hosts failed to control the ball after pushing Judds' scrum over the line, then threw away a three-on-one overlap.
Coach Ian Davies felt the referee was wrong with some key decisions but said: "We should be good enough to rise above that.
"We have still got win every game but we have made it harder for ourselves."
East Grinstead snatched a 17-13 home win over Brighton but they admitted they rode their luck.
Matt Lester and Colin Blake scored and there was also a penalty try as Gs continued their recent winning run. Dan Moore added a conversion.
Brighton were baffled by three sin binnings but managed to stay in the game with a James Lewis try plus a conversion and two penalties from Geraint Jones.
Coach Bert Merritt said: "We are trying to play good rugby and we will not lower our standards."
One referee to receive praise was Sussex's own Iain Mitchell. His performance was described as exemplary by Crawley, even though they lost 19-0 to Dunstonians.
Veteran prop Paul Sparkes was less impressed by his own team. He said: "I am extremely disappointed with the game, the scoreline but most of all some of the players attitudes. I have played for Crawley 1st XV for nearly 12 years and never have I seen such a lack of commitment."
Lewes had plenty of the game at home to Dartfordians but lost 33-17 and now face a key match at Brighton next Saturday.
Their best moment came when Paul Livesey's well worked try out wide was converted by Dave Tyrrell to cut the gap to 19-10. Tyrell also goaled a late score from Neil Rumble to add to Huw James's early penalty.
