A man was killed when his car was involved in a collision with a lorry near Horsham.
He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, on the B2110 at Lower Beeding.
The lorry ended up embedded in the side of the dead man's car, which came to rest in a ditch.
Firefighters from Horsham were called to remove the lorry and cut the dead man from his vehicle.
A Horsham fire station spokesman said: "A large recovery vehicle removed the lorry. We then winched the car out of the ditch and cut the man out."
The accident blocked the road for almost three hours.
D J Nichols, the owners of the lorry, refused to comment.
Last night police had not disclosed the dead man's identity. No details were available about the lorry driver.
