Artist Yukki Yaura showed off her skill by painting on a nude model at a live exhibition.
The painter, who specialises in traditional Japanese calligraphy, spent three hours decorating student Caroline Warhurst's body as members of the public looked on.
She covered her model from head to foot with Japanese encryptions in different colours during the exhibition at the University of Brighton gallery in Grand Parade.
Yaura's calligraphy reached world-wide audiences when it was featured in Peter Greenaway's film Pillow Book and Stephen Spielburg's Empire Of The Sun.
Her performance this weekend was part of a season of Japanese events at the university gallery which lasts until February.
