Albion boss Peter Taylor has urged the fringe players to "impress me" in tonight's LDV Vans Trophy tie against Wycombe at Withdean.

Taylor is continuing the policy of caretaker Bob Booker, who fielded only three first team regulars for the first round win at Swansea.

Dirk Lehmann, Geoff Pitcher and Robbie Pethick, all signed by former manager Micky Adams in the summer, are among those to be given a chance.

"I want the players to impress me," Taylor said. "It's much better than a reserve game and it's a tremendous opportunity for them.

"Of course it is important but not as important as the League and this is the only way I can look at the players I haven't seen much of as quickly as I need to."

Andy Crosby, put on the transfer list at his own request prior to Taylor's arrival, is another sure starter in the centre of defence in the absence of Danny Cullip and Simon Morgan.

Albion are waiting for the results of X-rays on Cullip's knee problem and Morgan's head injury ahead of Saturday's League trip to fourth-placed Bristol City.

"I've deliberately not had any one to ones with any of the players yet," Taylor said. "The plan was always to give it two weeks to look at everything and go from there.

"It's a new start for some of the players. Andy came on against Colchester on Saturday and did well and it's up to him."

Taylor is gradually assessing everyone available to him and he prevented the on-loan Scott Ramsay from playing for Yeovil in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Albion are theoretically the best team left in the LDV competition after Wycombe knocked out Second Division leaders Brentford in the opening round.

Awaiting the winners is a place in Friday night's southern section quarter-final draw on Radio 5 Live.

Albion have postponed tomorrow night's reserve fixture at Norwich due to their hectic schedule this week. The youngsters would have played but they were in action in the FA Youth Cup last night.

Seats for the FA Cup first round tie against Shrewsbury at Withdean on November 17 go on sale to season ticket holders from November 1 to November 9.

Away supporters scheme members and litter patrollers can apply from November 12, when priority will also be given to fans producing a ticket stub for tonight's match. Any remaining tickets go on general sale on November 14.

Tickets for Albion's next home league game against Brian Horton's Port Vale on November 10 have sold out.
