J Reid (Letters, October 25) is wrong to doubt the accuracy of Den Stockley's recollection in Your Memories (The Argus Weekend, October 20).
I can assure J Reid that, at one time, Plummer Roddis and other major retail outlets in Brighton did close at 1pm on Saturdays.
As a very young trainee salesman at Hannigtons, I was able to attend the Albion's matches on Saturday afternoons.
But there was no uniformity on half-day closing. Multiple shoe-shop branches closed early on Thursdays, whereas most food shops closed at 1pm on Wednesdays.
In Hove at that time, the main practice was to close early on Wednesday.
