The man who created one of the best-known advertising symbols has died at the age of 95.
More than 50 years ago, former advertising executive Stanley Back came up with the Bertie Bassett Liquorice Allsorts character while playing with the sweets in a meeting at the advertising agency where he worked.
Mr Back, who lived in St Mary's House, Preston Park Avenue, Brighton, died peacefully on October 27 at the home in which he had lived for the past ten years.
Mr Back, a bachelor, worked at the London-based agency from the age of 14, when he started as a messenger boy.
He retired at 60 as the creative director.
Mr Back was also the man behind Abbey National's logo of a couple under an umbrella, which is still used.
Mr Back kept Bertie as his favourite piece of work and maintained his links with the character by selling Liquorice Allsorts to other residents at the St Mary's House shop.
His funeral will be held at the North Chapel, Woodvale Crematorium, Lewes Road, Brighton, on Monday at noon.
