Lancing youngster Mitchell Fraser is preparing to take a bow as the mascot for Leeds United in their Premiership match with Tottenham at Elland Road tomorrow.

Mitchell, 5, has caught the Leeds bug from dad Tim who is a lifelong fan after growing up in the Yorkshire city.

Mitchell names Australian Harry Kewell as his favourite player and the youngster has Kewell's number ten on the back of his shirt.

He has just played his first game for Lancing Rangers under-sevens and is looking forward to his big day in front of a crowd of around 30,000.

"I not scared," he said. "No. 10 will score and I'll want to meet the players."

Mitchell has waited two years for the opportunity to lead out David O'Leary's unbeaten team but the occasion very nearly did not happen at all.

The Frasers returned from holiday in Rhodes on October 11 and they opened the letter from the club offering Mitchell the chance to be mascot for the day.

The letter stated that the acceptance form had to be returned to Leeds by October 10. Dad frantically phoned the club and got an extension before mailing the letter by registered post.

The whole Fraser family will attend the midday game, including Mitchell's brother 18-year-old Chris who is a Spurs fan.

Mum Debbie remains sensibly neutral. "Everyone thinks Mitchell is lovely," she said.

"He is very excited, we just wonder what the Leeds players will make of him?"
