Eastbourne Borough progressed to the second round of the FA Trophy with a 1-0 victory in their replay at Chatham.

In an end to end first half both sides went close. Clinton More just failed to make contact with a low cross from Daren Pearce and moments later a fine 30 yard drive from Matt Crabb was beaten away by Kevin Fewell in the Chatham goal.

At the other end Daren Pearce cleared off the line and from the clearance up field More volleyed over the bar.

As the first half came to a close a long clearance from Dean Lightwood was knocked on by More but keeper Fewell beat Matt Allen to the ball.

On 54 minutes Lightwood saw the ball rebound off the post and bar and did well to save a fierce effort from Steve Best.

Chatham's Fewell also came to his team's rescue when he made an instinctive save to touch the ball over the bar from Matt Smart.

With 70 minutes gone there was little to choose between the teams although Crabb went close with another long range effort.

Borough made a bizarre breakthrough on 85 minutes when keeper Fewell attempted to clear a back pass but the ball struck Eastbourne striker Allen and rolled into the empty net.

The victory sees Borough at home to Bedford Town of the Ryman Premier Division in the next round.

In the Sussex County League division one derby, a brace from Ian Ford gave Selsey a 2-0 victory over Littlehampton.
