I just had to comment on the local amenity tips after Lancashire Lad's tale (November 8).
My family and I recently had to clear out my mother's house, including everything in the attic.
The cheapest way to do this, we decided, was to hire a Transit van and make three or four trips (it's a huge attic).
I called the tip first to make sure this was okay. The person didn't sound keen but said because I had called ahead it would be "okay to do it this once".
On the day, after paying out to hire the van, we had a hard time getting past the man with the clipboard at the Hove tip.
I explained we were not trade and that I had called ahead. He said he would only allow us to do one more trip.
We had to leave the rest of the stuff in the garden for four weeks as we moved it all little by little.
What is going on with these tips? No wonder people just dump their stuff at roadsides. And what will we do when the landfill sites are full?
