Computer novices never know where to begin so Getting Started on Your PC from Focus Multimedia should solve a lot of problems for enthusiastic newcomers.
This package of three CD ROMs takes a holistic approach to the problems of learning computer skills and offers a highly-comprehensive course.
Starting with an easy-to-use touch typing course that really will make a difference to anyone wanting to get the best from their computer, the set moves on to using Microsoft Windows 2000, ME, 95 and 98.
There is a really simple course on information technology, including rec-ognising different types of computers, understanding how computers work and how to choose the best machine for your own use.
The courses are all pitched at the beginner, so there is a minimum of jargon and a lot of common sense.
There are sections on using common Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Access, Excel and Internet Explorer, and plenty of tips and tricks to make things happen quickly and easily.
I was very impressed with this package, not just because it offers a good all- round insight into computing, but because it offers a really easy way into learning about technology.
My favourite section was about creating and working with charts. For the first time, I really felt confident enough to have a go and use charts. I don't need them very often but it was good to find out how to make them happen and how to incorporate them into my work.
This superb title should be on any new user's list.
