St Leonards are looking for a new manager today after Terry White resigned after less than one week in charge.
White's reign at the Firs started disastrously with a 5-1 home defeat at the hands of Spalding on Saturday and afterwards White confessed he was having second thoughts about the job.
Now the former Hastings Town coach has left St Leonards and he is keen to return to Hastings as soon as possible.
White spent 19 years at The Pilot Field and he says he only realised his feelings for the club once he had left.
"I was wrong," said White. "I am a Hastings boy and I always will be. It didn't feel right at St Leonards.
"It has been a bit of a nightmare to be honest. I've been to see my doctor because the whole thing has made me ill.
"I've not taken a penny from St Leonards but I refused to do a job I couldn't devote all my energies to.
"I have spoken to George (Wakeling, the Hastings' manager) and he did seem reasonably keen on me returning but that will be put on the back burner now.
"I am worried they won't take me back, but if they do the next time I leave they will have to sack me."
White moved to the Firs after Saints sacked Micky Taylor and White's resignation comes as a bitter blow to chairman John Cornelius, who originally hailed his arrival as a "real coup for St Leonards".
Now the chairman is seeking to add some stability to the club ahead of the team's trip to Fisher Athletic in the Dr Martens eastern division on Saturday.
Former manager Andy Thomson took charge of the team in Tuesday night's 4-2 defeat at Burnham in the Dr Martens Cup.
Cornelius said: "The most important thing for us is to stablise the team and keep the players together. We will prepare the team at training tomorrow with Andy Thomson and he will take the team on Saturday and on Monday.
"I have already had countless calls from people interested in the job. And in the middle of next week we will have a board meeting and we will not be rushed into anything.
"Terry White has been given the opportunity he said he always wanted and I am pleased he told us his concerns early and not when he found himself in a situation he couldn't get out of."
