Ringmer could afford to miss two penalties as they romped to a 7-1 victory over Chichester City in the John O'Hara League Cup.
Shaun Grice spurned a chance to complete his hat-trick when his spot-kick hit the post while Glenn Davies also missed from 12 yards.
Tony Holden bagged a hat-trick, Grice got two while Darren Longley and Kevin Townsend were also on target as Jamie Laidlaw replied for Chichester.
Geard said: "If it had been a boxing match it would have been stopped, although, credit to Chichester they kept giving their all right to the end."
Selsey bounced back from last week's FA Vase exit against league leaders Burgess Hill with a 3-0 victory over the reigning champions Sidley United.
Jason Reed returned from a five-week ban to grab the first goal while Paul Lee's near post finish established a 2-0 half- time lead. Lee's cool finish after the break wrapped up the scoring.
Delighted player-manager Danny Hinshelwood said: "We dominated the game from start to finish. It was probably the best we have played all season."
Horsham YMCA picked up three points at The Oval against Eastbourne United with a 3-1 victory, although, they had to withstand late pressure having missed a number of opportunities to forge a comfortable lead.
Stuart McCreadie opened the scoring after the United keeper spilled a Nick Flint free-kick while Paul Boxall continues to average a goal a game, scoring his eighth in as many appearances this season when he netted from the penalty spot following a handball.
An own goal completed YM's scoring although United pulled a goal back through Walsh.
Southwick marked Sammy Donnelly's first home match with a 2-0 win over Sidlesham.
Chris Georgiou put them in front with a fierce strike and there were also chances for Dwayne Davis and Garry Snow.
Sidlesham came back into it after the break, without really theatening. They later had two men sent-off for dissent.
Jason Tighe converted a late penalty and boss Donnelly admitted: "We saw this as a six-pointer.
"We didn't play as well as we can but the win was really important."
