A large housing estate could become one of the first to have a new-style "home zone" with traffic slowed to a snail's pace.
An area of Bognor has been nominated by West Sussex County Council in a bid for a share of a £30 million Government fund to launch the scheme.
The low-speed home zone with traffic-calming measures would be based around Gravits Lane, Frith Road, Westloats Lane, Hampshire Avenue and Mons Avenue, an area of mainly council and housing association homes.
The area, known as the Pevensey ward, has the highest number of accidents involving children and elderly people in West Sussex.
The result of the bid is expected to be known in January.
