Lately, I have been trying to win a prize in the competitions that have appeared in The Express newspaper for a little extra for Christmas.
When I received my telephone account, however, I was astounded to find the premium-rate calls had cost £35.
It costs 60p just to repeat one's postcode. For all my trouble, I have won precisely nothing and my advice is to avoid the premium-rate phone calls like the plague and make use of the second-class post.
If I had not won a bottle of red wine from The Argus and turned it into a mulled wine, it would have been a cold, cold Christmas for me.
At least I have provided BT with a very profitable Christmas.
