I want to come to the aid of the parking attendants so maligned in The Argus letters columns by car drivers who selfishly believe it is their inherent right to park wherever they please.
One utterly irresponsible correspondent went so far as to encourage people to appeal against parking fines in order to clog up the system (Letters, December 11).
If people are wealthy enough to own cars, they can pay for parking in properly designated areas.
I hope Brighton and Hove City Council will earn enough money from fines to keep public services in full swing rather than withhold grants from local groups such as the Citizens' Advice Bureau in Hove.
I hope fines from rich car drivers will keep our council tax within reasonable bounds or else we shall all have to pay even more.
