It is difficult to accept the claim of those who seek power by becoming independent councillors that party politics is responsible for the "ruination of Brighton and Hove" (The Argus, December 21), when, in the same issue, we are told the hotels in the city couldn't wait to expand their businesses.
Not long ago, The Argus journalist Adam Trimingham told us he couldn't recall a time when he felt so confident of the city's future.
The Editor, Simon Bradshaw, more recently re-iterated his belief that Brighton and Hove was the place to be.
I'd much rather accept their impartial judgments than those with an axe to grind.
Wasn't it Plato who said, "there's only one kind of person fit for power, he who despises it"?
