Victims of car breakdowns may hold clues to help police catch a rapist.
Anyone who broke down or helped a motorist on the A259 between Seaford and Eastbourne on New Year's Day is asked to come forward.
Police think they may have seen a red, two-door, car in which a 17-year-old was repeatedly attacked.
Detective Inspector Paul Fullwood, of Brighton CID, said: "We are looking for mechanics, tow-truck drivers or garage hands who attended a breakdown along that stretch between 3am and 9am."
The victim was abducted outside a seafront nightclub in Brighton in the early hours of New Year's Day and bundled into a car.
She was raped several times by one of three men as the vehicle was driven towards Eastbourne.
The girl was dropped off in Western Road, near the junction with Waterloo Street, Hove.
The rapist was black, 5ft 7in, stocky, with a shaven head. He wore a red jumper bearing the letters FUBV or FUBU.
Anyone with information should call Brighton CID on 0845 6070 999.
