Not everyone who visits McDonald's in London Road, Brighton, is there for a Big Mac and chips.

Some of them slide into the toilets for a quick fix and to meet other addicts in a warm, dry place.

McDonald's is heavily used by children and the last thing most parents want is for their little ones to visit the loos where addicts are injecting themselves with hard drugs.

It's a sad reflection on society that the fast food chain is now making customers ring a bell and be supervised entering the toilets by a member of staff.

There will also be a camera installed, which should put off the drug users.

McDonald's is right to take this action, in a bid to keep its restaurants safe and friendly for customers, young and old.

Its action will doubtless drive the addicts to other places nearby, where there is a good chance they will be found by police and be directed to treatment centres.
