Twin chimneys at a disused power station are facing the final stages of demolition.
The 200ft stacks at the Broomgrove Power Station, Fire Tree Road, Hastings, were scaled down through gradual demolition work but today, a 120-ton crane was due to start knocking down the remaining 60ft stumps.
A spokeswoman for the council said the chimneys would be levelled by February.
She said: "The next stage will be to move all the animals living there and the last stage will be taking out all the concrete structures, which should be completed by December."
The power plant was destroyed by fire in May two years ago when vandals set light to 30,000 tyres at the plant, close to a housing estate.
The blaze triggered an asbestos fall-out and resulted in £100,000 clean-up bill.
Hastings Borough Council bought the site and now plans to develop the area for more housing, community buildings and businesses.
Demolition work cost the council £1.96 million.
