I share entirely P Twiselton's concern at Hove-based public services being closed or transferred to Brighton (Letters, December 31).

However, I do not accept the Hove Polyclinic has lots of wasted space.

There is an excellent, spacious car park near the Polyclinic which, importantly, is free.

Also, space allows a frequent bus service to operate to the Polyclinic entrance. These transport facilities considerably benefit patients and others visiting the Polyclinic.

With such a wide range of outpatients' services from South Downs Health and Brighton Health Care NHS Trust, the Polyclinic has proved a real boon and not only for people living locally.

Nor should it be overlooked that there are two hospitals near the Polyclinic.

The Nevill Hospital has 40 beds and the Mill View Hospital has 54, with building work in progress to provide facilities for a further 35 patients.

It is quite clear efficient planning has ensured there is not a waste of space.
