Chairman Don Trangmar has admitted Sussex are unlikely to appoint their new chief executive before the start of the season.
The county advertised the post in October following the departure of Dave Gilbert, who took up a similar position in his native Sydney with the New South Wales Cricket Association.
Several candidates have been interviewed, but Trangmar says they are no nearer finding Glibert's replacement.
In the meantime he will continue to do the job on a part-time basis.
Trangmar said: "We're still in the process of trying to find someone. The search is going on as long as I thought it might. At the moment I can't say when we will appoint someone, but I hope it will be before the start of the season.
"I'm reluctant to keep doing the job for too long. I had a career in the corporate world and that's enough although when I'm here I'm not a passenger, I'm trying to help improve all aspects of the running of the club."
Marketing manager Neil Lenham and Ian Waring, the county's cricket development manager, were both interviewed for the top job, but Trangmar confirmed that there would not be an internal appointment.
Instead Lenham is in line to replace Russell Taylor as the county's business manager.
"We're looking at the whole structure of the marketing department," added Trangmar. "Hopefully something will be resolved in the next few days."
