Albion have rejected an approach from an un-named Premiership club for goal king Bobby Zamora.
Chairman Dick Knight told them Zamora is not for sale and that stance was then supported by the Albion Board.
The approach was made just before Christmas. Martin Perry, the Seagulls' chief executive, revealed: "We haven't had a bid, but there was contact chairman to chairman.
"It was a Premiership club. They were told we are not selling and there has been no further discussion.
"There was a strong rejection from us. There was a Board meeting to discuss it afterwards and the Board confirmed that position."
Several Premiership clubs have been linked with Zamora in recent weeks, notably Sunderland and Everton.
Perry dismissed a national newspaper story claiming Middlesbrough had a £3 million bid for Zamora turned down and he confirmed they were not the club which made the approach.
Albion fans fear a move by Barking-born Zamora's boyhood idols West Ham, with Paolo Di Canio reportedly bound for Manchester United, but boss Peter Taylor has already made public his determination to hold onto Zamora.
He is sticking to his guns and has no intention of selling his 19-goal spearhead this season.
Taylor declared: "When I came here it was the first thing I spoke to Dick about. To me he is definitely not going, especially this season.
"If it means in the summer something fantastic happens for him that everybody agrees with then I will live with that but not now, not for the run-in, because it's so important for this club."
Zamora returns to the goal trail on Saturday at Wigan, the club which had a £1.5 million bid for him rejected last season.
The 20-year-old hotshot was on target in a 2-1 win for the promotion-chasing Seagulls when the sides met at Withdean in August.
Danny Cullip has been named Albion website player of the month. The influential centre half, on the transfer list at his own request, produced a series of impressive performances and scored a cracking goal against Rushden and Diamonds in the FA Cup.
Cullip polled more than two-thirds of fans' votes to finish well clear of his defensive partner Simon Morgan and Zamora.
Albion's next home League match against lowly Cambridge United a week on Saturday has sold out.
