The headline about Brighton and Hove not planning any events to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee (The Argus, January 9) prompts me to write this letter on behalf of the Hove Lions Club.
For the past 29 years, Hove Lions have had the Carnival in Hove Park.
In July last year we wrote to Brighton and Hove City Council to formally request permission for this year's carnival to be held on Monday, June 3, pointing out this would be the Jubilee and suggesting the event could be the focal point for celebrations, Hove Park being large enough to host many other activities.
We did have provisional confirmation subject to an executive decision, which we are still waiting to receive.
In anticipation of formal confirmation, Hove Lions have already booked the main arena events, Cole's Fun Fair and the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment Parachutists and are planning special events for children too.
Hove Lions appeal to any other local clubs, charities, organisations and businesses to join us on the June 3.
Why not fill up Hove Park with lots of activities and make this one enormous party event to celebrate this magnificent Jubilee? Those interested, call 01273 554945.
