While I agree with Keith Stevens ("Car block burner protest", The Argus, December 28) that something like a blockade would raise awareness of the incinerator, he is proposing it in the wrong place.

Residents of Newhaven and the surrounding area already have the inconvenience of their main roads being blocked two or three times daily - it is called the Newhaven swing bridge.

Mr Stevens should be directing his anger towards Councillor Peter Jones, who is leader of East Sussex County Council and who lives on the outskirts of the county in Rye.

Coun Jones is the main driving force behind the siting of the incinerator and blocking Newhaven's roads would have no effect on him whatsoever.

It would be far more appropriate to blockade the roads surrounding Mr Jones in Rye.

This would raise Rye electors' awareness in as to exactly what kind of man represents them and would have far more impact on Mr Jones himself.

They might start asking him some quite searching questions, especially if they are not already aware of the total opposition to incineration in this part of the county.
