Warren Waugh was back among the goals as Crawley Town beat Rye and Iden United 4-0 in the Sussex Senior Cup in the 3rd round.

Reds were dominant from the word go and looked like a side brimming with confidence.

Waugh came in to partner Ben Abbey up front while former Carshalton man Simon Bassey made his debut at right back.

After just four minutes, Reds went close as Keith Sharman forced his way past Rye's Scott Price but saw his shot deflected wide.

Abbey and Ben Judge both went close to opening the scoring before the first goal arrived in the 25th minute.

Bassey's long ball sliced open the Rye defence and Abbey turned before firing a low shot past keeper Simon Rudgley.

Waugh and Jimmy Dack threatened the visitors' goal but fine vision from Abbey set Waugh away to slot in the second before the break.

Just 34 seconds into the second half, Waugh added his second, knocking in Sharman's cross.

Unselfish play from substitute Warren Bagnall saw him square for Waugh to complete his hat-trick from just yards out in the 75th minute.

Reds Manager Billy Smith said: "It was a comfortable win in the end, and it was nice for Warren Waugh to score a hat-trick and get a bit a confidence."

Crawley will now meet the winners of the match between Arundel and Hastings Town in the quarter finals next month.

That match has to be rearranged as it was one of three postponements in Sussex last night. Also off was the tie between Hailsham Town and Horsham along with the John O'Hara League Cup match between Ringmer and East Preston.

The winners of the match between Hailsham and Horsham will meet either Albion Reserves or Hassocks in the last eight.

In the only other match to go ahead in Sussex last night Roger Moore scored twice as Chichester won 4-1 at Selsey in Rich City County League division one.

Defeat was a shock for Selsey who had beaten County League leaders Burgess Hill in the Sussex RUR Cup last Saturday.

Derek Chester cancelled out Moore's fifth minute opener on the half hour mark but Jamie Laidlaw restored Chi's advantage just before half time.

Moore scored a fabulous second goal on 60 minutes, taking his tally to 20 for the season, and youngster Jamie Angell wrapped up victory eight minutes from time.

Chichester assistant-boss Joe Laidlaw said: "It was a great result considering we have had a couple of really bad results recently.

"Selsey had a great result against Burgess Hill on Saturday, so it shows the inconsistency of some of the sides. Anybody is capable of beating anybody in this league."

There is one game in Sussex tonight with Hassocks entertaining Pagham in division one although that game could be under threat if the rain continues.
