The brother of a murdered man was meeting with the new Sussex Police Chief Constable Ken Jones today.

Michael Abatan was due to discuss progress in the latest inquiry into the death of his brother Jay.

The first investigation was heavily criticised in a report by Essex Police and Mr Jones, in his former role as Deputy Chief Constable of Avon and Somerset Police, was investigating possible disciplinary action against officers involved. He has since relinquished that role.

The second inquiry, Operation Hurling, has been running for about a year.

Jay Abatan, from Eastbourne, was assaulted on January 24, 1999, outside the Ocean Rooms night club in Morley Street, Brighton, following a dispute over a taxi.

He went into a coma and died in hospital.

Police are treating the incident as a racist murder
